International marriage equality conference

On November 8th, 2018, the international conference “Recognizing the rights of the LGBT couple who are married or within a civil union in the EU” in Sofia, brought together prominent experts from different countries, who shared what they have accomplished within their home countries, and what remains to be achieved in the fight for marriage equality.
The GLAS Foundation in association with The Center for Democracy Studies, the “Resource Center – Bilitis” foundation and the Youth LGBT organization “Deystvie” were the event’s organizers. Conference was realized as a result of the project “Love Moves”, co-financed by the Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme, and dedicated to marriage equality and the right of homosexual couples to reside in the EU.

Among the participants in the programme were Moninne Griffith, director of the Belong To organization and a member of the YES! Campaign team, who managed to achieve a victory at the referendum in Ireland. Gabi Kalleja, the Chair of Malta’s LGBTI Consultative Council within the Ministry of European Affairs and Equality, and Teodora Rotaru from Romania gave insight into the failed referendum in her country and the victory in the Coman case.
