More than 10 000 people showed up for Sofia Pride 2021

After a break in 2020, on June 12, Sofia Pride finally took place physically, attracting the largest number of visitors in its history. More than 10,000 people took part in the concert in front of the Soviet Army Monument and in the march. The parade started with a performance by Ruth Koleva of the Bulgarian national anthem, and a real rainbow showed up in the sky over the participants by the end of the march.

GLAS Foundation was part of the organizing committee of Sofia Pride as usual.

The 14th edition of Sofia Pride was granted public support by a total of 22 diplomatic missions, numerous non-governmental organizations and various businesses. The companies that took part in the event were Walltopia, Draftkings, Ingram Micro, Sutherland, HPE, Paysafe, By Far, Absolut and EY.

The chairmen of the Green Movement Borislav Sandov and Vladislav Panev, lawyer Nikolay Hadjigenov from “Stand up! Get out!” and Malina Edreva, municipal councilor and chairman of the GERB group in Sofia, municipal councilors from “Yes, Bulgaria” Mihail Pargov and Yana Todoranova, municipal councilor Marta Georgieva from DSB, MEP from the Socialist group and BSP member Plamen Vitanov, Independent municipal councilor Boris Bonev and Radan Kanev of Democratic Bulgaria voiced their support for Sofia Pride 2021.

The record number of participants clearly shows that Pride’s mission was successful. The event was not stopped by threats or vandalism during the cultural program preceeding it. The organizers of the event will continue to work on a number of causes to improve the situation of LGBTI people in Bulgaria throughout the year.
