The economic cost of homophobia in Bulgaria

This analysis is an attempt to quantitatively assess the economic cost of homophobia in Bulgaria. A wide range of scientific theories in the fields of economics, sociology, public health, psychology and other social sciences support the idea that full rights and inclusion of LGBTI+1 people are associated with higher levels of economic development and well-being. The nature and strength of the relationship between higher levels of inclusiveness in the broad sense and economic development varies across studies. They can be briefly summarized to several approaches and hypotheses, which are to varying degrees adapted in view of the available data and local specificities and applied in the analytical part of the study below.
