The GLAS Foundation and the Jewish Organization in Bulgaria Shalom signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation
The Jewish Organization in Bulgaria Shalom and the GLAS Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation on February 15, united by the desire to live in a democratic, civil society without divisions, intolerance and hate speech.
‘The parties will share their experience and expertise to raise public awareness of the need for concrete measures to prevent and combat forms of intolerance and their physical manifestations, in particular hate speech and hate crime,’ reads the text of the memorandum. In addition, they will continue to work to create a safe environment for groups, communities and individuals who are subject to intolerance.
Among the guests at the signing ceremony at the Jewish Culture House were Israel’s Ambassador to Bulgaria HE. Irit Lillian, US Ambassador HE. Eric Rubin, General Director of Global Affairs Directorate and Director of the Human Rights Directorate at the MFA, Ambassador Plamen Bonchev and Ms. Maria Spassova, Editor-in-Chief of the Marginalia Human Rights Site, Ashdown Derandonian of “Listen Up “and Alexander Ivanov from” Moga – Youth Organization of the Deaf Activists “, the President of the Central Israelite Religious Council, Sofia Cohen and her colleagues from the management team of Shalom.
“Each of us is different and this should not be a reason to feel threatened. Now is the time to build such alliances, not walls to separate us. We are delighted that in Shalom we find not only partners but friends with whom we will work together to preserve the democratic values in our society and the common vision of a united Europe, “said Simeon Vassilev, the GLAS Foundation’s chairman in his address.
