Simeon Vassilev took part in “12 letters to the twelfth graders”
Simeon Vassilev from the GLAS Foundation took part in the project “12 letters to the twelfth graders” and wrote the first letter, which openly commented on the topic of sexual orientation.
In it, he talks about homophobia and bullying by classmates in his school years.
“For the 13-year-old gay boy from another city, alone and harassed, climbing those graduation stairs a few years later was a sweet victory. Because I had succeeded. I managed to overcome the hatred, not to let it defeat me, to grow up, to discover myself and come out of the cocoon of my childhood and secret. I had managed to prove my abilities. And the honor of saying the last words to everyone at school that day fell on me. I still remember the heat of the sun and the power of words. The tears were certainly burning not elsewhere, but in my eyes and those of my parents, “he said.
