The GLAS Foundation won the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee’s “Activists of the Year” Award
The GLAS Foundation received the “Activists of the year” Award alongside the “Resource Center – Bilitis” Foundation and the Youth LGBTI organization “Deytsvie” at the annual activist award ceremony “Person of the Year”, which is traditionally organized by the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee (BHC).
The reasons for the BHC’s award are the collective and concentrated actions in defense of the human rights of LGBTI people in 2018, which led to the opening in Sofia of the first ever Bulgarian LGBTI community center – Rainbow Hub. Another one of the achievements of the local LGBTI organizations during the past year is the initiation of an online petition for the recognition of same-sex couples that have gotten married in another country, which is a member-state of the European Union.
