Homosoc – Homosexuality during the Communist Regime in Bulgaria
There is very little known about the history of homosexual people in Bulgaria, and the knowledge on this issue is often limited to rumors and gossip. Even less is known about the attitude of the communist regime towards them.
The exhibition “Homosoc” (September 30 – October 13, 2019; Port A Gallery, Sofia) presents the first major and comprehensive study of homosexuality during Communism. The project, organized by The GLAS Foundation with the support of the European Cultural Foundation, involved historians, sociologists, students, curators and artists to provide a summary of the period.
The research, upon which the exhibition is based, was conducted in the period 2018-2019 under the supervision of Veronica Dimitrova, Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology at Sofia University.
