The economic cost of homophobia in Bulgaria

This analysis is an attempt to quantitatively assess the economic cost of homophobia in Bulgaria. A wide range of scientific theories in the fields of economics, sociology, public health, psychology and other social sciences support the idea that full rights and inclusion of LGBTI+1 people are associated with higher levels of economic development and well-being.

“Family like any other” Conference

The GLAS Foundation in partnership with the Bulgarian Lawyers for Human Rights Foundation and the Embassies of France and the Kingdom of the Netherlands is organizing a discussion on the protection of family relations in same-sex couples, which will take place on 29 May 2024 from 9.30 to 14.30 in the Slaveykov Hall of the French Institute.

Today, at a Prayer for Peace organized by Shalom, the Organization of Jews in Bulgaria, at the central synagogue in Sofia, we expressed our sorrow for the innocent children, parents, and peaceful residents of Israel who were brutally and publicly murdered in the unprovoked terrorist attack on October 7.

Victory for the LGBTI+ people in Bulgaria

At today’s sitting, 28 July 2023, the Parliament passed a law amending the Penal Code, which provides for heavier penalties for crimes committed with the motive of the victim’s sexual orientation.
